Born in Rimini on June 15, 1927, died in Lausanne on August 20, 1995.
Do we still need to introduce Hugo Pratt, whose stature is such today that both man and author already belong to contemporary mythology? How can we sum up sixty years of peregrinations that have taken the little Venetian to every continent, through every upheaval in our history? How to evoke half a century of unbridled creativity, for an inexhaustible body of work? One date is worth remembering: 1967, the year of publication of La ballade de la mer salée (The Ballad of the Salty Sea), which saw the birth of the man who was to become a legendary hero in his own right: Corto Maltese. Eleven albums of the adventures of the "gentleman of fortune" have since been published. Ten years ago, Pratt created the "Cato Zoulou" series, while writing his first screenplay for Manara, Un été indien, which was followed by a second collaboration: El Gaucho. In avril 1995, Hugo Pratt gave us a fascinating Saint-Exupéry. He left us in August 1995, to join the only land of dreams. (Source Casterman)
